As it usually goes after a very tedious piece (see sketch 5: Bloomfield Cows), I needed to blow off a little steam, and get reckless. That’s why I love this project: switching mediums… (between pen, gesso, and oil pastels) provides an internal release that frees me up based on the mood I’m in. Sometimes I want to get really detailed, so I use the gel pen. After one of those feats of patience, I want something more automatic, where i can cover more ground, faster. That’s when I use the brush and black gesso, as you see here.

Some notes about this piece: This particular board was kind of gnarley, as it’s been in my garage for quite a while, and has collected a variety of gnats and moths stuck to the dryed gesso primer. There is actually a dime-sized moth entombed under layers of gesso, near the solder’s left knee. Hey, it’s project35 right…if it’s there, it stays.

Cheers, and thanks for reading.
